Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry. Anti-malarials are highly recommended.

💵

Ugandan Shilling (UGX). Use ATMs in Kampala/Entebbe; carry USD (post-2013 bills) for park fees.

Hiking Gear

Gorilla Trekking Gear

  • Long Sleeved Trousers: Tuck these into your socks to prevent fire ants.
  • Gardening Gloves: Essential for gripping branches/thorns during the hike.
  • Waterproof Boots: The Bwindi forest floor is often slippery and muddy.
  • Earth Tones: Wear green, brown, or khaki. Avoid bright colors and camouflage.

Best Time to Visit

Dry Season (June – Sept & Dec – Feb)

The best time for gorilla trekking and general safari. Trails are drier, and wildlife congregates around water sources.

Dry Savannah

Wet Season (March – May & Oct – Nov)

Ideal for birdwatching and photography. The "Pearl" is at its greenest, and luxury lodges often offer discounted rates.

Getting Around

Uganda is best explored with a dedicated driver-guide. While Boda-Bodas (motorcycle taxis) are popular in Kampala for dodging traffic, we recommend using SafeBoda or Uber for safety. For long distances, domestic flights from Entebbe to airstrips like Kisoro or Kihihi can save you 8–10 hours of driving.

Pro Tip: 2026 is an election year in Uganda. While generally safe, travelers should stay informed via local media and avoid large political gatherings in Kampala.
